Fill the 5L cup, then pour into the 3L cup. Now you have 2 liters in the 5L cup. Empty the 3L cup. Pour the 2 liters from the 5L cup into the 3L cup. Fill the 5L cup again, then from it pour into the 3L cup. You are going to pour only 1 liter, since the 3L cup already has the 2 liters, thus we have 4 liters left in the 5L cup.
